What does it mean to show consideration? According to Merriam-Webster, consideration is "thoughtfulness and sensitivity toward others." It's concern, care, kindness, understanding, respect, sensitivity, and much more. Consideration is synonymous with respect, so when we are showing consideration for our customers, we are also treating them with respect. It's taking a genuine interest in your customers. Do you regularly show your customers that you are considerate? Do you do your best to take great care of them, their needs, and their unexpressed wishes?
Your wheels are turning, and while I have them spinning, it's important that you truly consider and think about your customer relationships and interactions. What else can you do, say, and sell to your customers so you can give them the best service that they deserve? Taking the time to evaluate this is your first step in mastering this very important customer service skill. To show consideration to your customers you must embrace some of the skills that we have previously reviewed in the "Top 10 Customer Service Skills List":
Each of these skills helps you to show your customers that you care (you are considerate); you take the time to get to know them by building relationships through the help of effective questioning and listening skills. You show them that you are engaged and invested in helping them with their needs. Then, you take the next step by proving that you are considerate because you quickly assist, actively find solutions, and customize all of your feedback/conversations to what they know, and don't know, that they need. You go above and beyond by giving all of your customers personalized focus. For example, you don't just deliver the product they purchased, but you make a point to deliver it earlier than expected because you learned they "want it yesterday," and you also enhanced their return by proactively customizing the snapshot report to what is needed for their executive meeting.
Want to know something pretty cool about what happens when you show your customers consideration? You CARE about your customers, and they will take CARE of you. Also, they will respect and value you, your services, and products more. Sounds like a good way to establish a long-term customer relationship, right?
