Where are you in the spectrum of being ready for your 2020 customer? Over the last few weeks I have heard so many people talking about "time." "Where did April go?" and "Didn't we just celebrate the arrival of 2018?" Although I feel much the same way, the speed in which time is passing panics me a little bit, but also motivates me. There are so many items on my "to do" list that I want to accomplish before we celebrate 2019's arrival and that gets me going!

Where did January go? Are you still focused on your New Year's resolutions? Looking back through the rear view mirror (if you will) is an exercise I find interesting each year. What happened, what didn't, what is inevitably going to continue to happen, what do I want more of, less of, that sort of thing.  Lot's of trend articles will surface about the previous year.  In fact, here was ours last year: 2017 Trending.  This year, as I was reading through some of the top trends, I came across a very interesting article by Simone Puorto, called Five hospitality trends to keep an eye on in 2018. So instead of looking back, we are going to look to the future.

top-13-elearning-trends-for-2015.jpgAs we begin to get comfortable with the New Year, it's always interesting to look at what is being discussed and predicted for the months ahead. Skift is an online news magazine that puts out reports on the hotel industry's automated future. Associate Editor at Skift, Deanna Ting says, "We make our predictions for some of the biggest trends that will impact the hospitality industry and the overall guest experience." 

Trends in the hospitality industry will always continue to evolve from year to year. Skift reported that last year's trends centered around mega mergers and acquisitions, as well as direct booking wars from online travel agents. 2017 promises to be a year of change, especially with the new administration, not to mention our new President is a hotelier.

millennialWhat are Millennials? According to, Wikipedia, Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates when the generation starts and ends. Researchers and commentators use birth years ranging from the early 1980's to the early 2000's. 

Robert Rauch wrote an article, Top 10 Hospitality Industry Trends in 2015 that discusses the profile of a Millennial. The major focus for this group is exploration, interaction, and experience. Rauch says, "They are looking for a unique and novel experience and this has and will continue to command change within the market."
